The Saint Jude Rules by Dominic Adler

Hang onto your harnesses, the simulation of the-end-of civilization-as-we-know-it is about to begin!  You may be confused for the first couple chapters – as confused as the main characters as to who’s on which side.  This is the third in the Cal Winter series, whose mission this time sends him into the eye of the storm, to overthrow those who have sabotaged the Firm, the private army hired to eliminate underground bad guys, become “liberator of worlds,” and master of lost causes.  Once a British special forces operative, Winter continues to kill for work with The Firm, until, in their lust for power, they take advantage of him and he escapes to Iceland.  Other former employees seek Cal out to stop the Firm’s plot to manipulate world markets, sending nations into chaos.  Like a video game, the book is chock full of studly (and nerdy) crime-fighters, computer-algorithm details, fancy weapons, and cushy compensation, including lots of booze, high-end retail and bitcoins.  Read it like HG Wells or Heart of Darkness, like it could happen if we don’t protect our freedoms.    Dominic Adler
